Apple Announces Record Profits for the 3rd Quarter

Apple announce the highest June quarter in the companies history.
Steve Jobs truly has the Midas touch, Apple posted revenue of $5.41 billion and a net quarterly profit of $818 million. Compare this with last years $4.73 billion and a net profit of $472 million it’s a pretty impressive quarter.
Macintosh computer sales were up by 33 percent, selling 1,764,000 that’s 150,000 more than Apples previous record for the most Macs sold in a single quarter. A whopping 9,815,000 iPods also sold during the quarter a 21 percent increase on the previous year.
Steve Jobs said (rubbing his hands together) “We’re thrilled to report the highest June quarter revenue and profit in Apple’s history, along with the highest quarterly Mac sales ever” and expects to sell over 1 million iPhones during the 4th quarter.
Notes from the conference call include:
1.) Landmark quarter for Apple
2.) Highest June quarter in Apple’s history
3.) Record Macintosh computer sales
4.) Mac computers represent 60% of quarterly revenue a 33% growth year on year
5.) Mac notebook sales grew 42% year on year
6.) Music business represents 40% of quarterly revenue.
7.) Other music revenue grew 33% year on year
8.) NPD reported iTunes became 3rd largest in the U.S.
9.) 270,000 iPhones in the 1st 30 hours of sales.
10.) Based on surveys, people love their iPhones. 90% of iPhone owners were Extremely or Very satisfied with their phone. 85% Extremely or Very Likely to recommend the iPhone to others.
11.) Expect to sell 1 million iPhones by Sept 29th
12.) 4th Calendar quarter to sell iPhone in Europe.
13.) Announcement later this quarter.
14.) 10 Million iPhones goal in Calendar 2008
15.) Plan on incorporating new Software and Features into iPhone over time. Will begin to receive payments from AT&T in the future quarters.
16.) Subscription accounting on iPhone and Apple TV sales
Installing or reinstalling Mac OS X

We have had a number of requests about re-installing Mac OS X so we have put together this short article to help guide you through the process.
Insert you’re Mac OS X CD1 then restart your Mac while holding down the C key, once OS X has booted the install program will launch automatically.
Select your language (I like to use one I can read) then click on continue. Take a look at the welcome screen, read the important information and software license Agreement clicking continue once you have digested each.
Click the disk icon for the destination drive you want to install / re-install Mac OS X to, at the bottom of this screen you will see an options button offering 3 choices:
a.) Upgrade Mac OS X
Select this option if you have an older version of Mac OS X already installed. This option will preserve your files and settings.
b.) Archive Mac OS ZX
Choose this option to back up all of your old Mac OS X files into a folder named Previous System and then install a fresh copy. Here you also have the option of transferring all users and network settings by selecting Preserve Users and Network settings.
c.) Erase and Install
Select this option if you wish to delete all of your files and install a fresh version of Mac OS X, the format disk pop up menu offers you the choice of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or Unix File System (You really DON’T want this one) you Want Mac OS Extended.
Next click OK to go back the select a destination screen and click continue, you are offered the choice of easy install which copies Mac OS X to your chosen drive or Custom install which allows you to choose which items you want to install. The install process takes from 10 – 20 minutes once complete your Mac will restart. Set up assistant will appear unless you have chosen Archive and install and you can begin using your Mac.

New QuarkXPress licensing

A new QuarkXPress licensing scheme has been introduced by Quark to help new student designers.

Quark has changed its terms and conditions and allows students to use their education Quark licenses for commercial work.
Students can continue to use their Quark education license for the current version of XPress commercially at no charge. Discounted upgrades are available after graduation - eliminating the need to purchase a full copy of QuarkXPress. This applies for Mac and windows versions.

The Sims on iPod

Electronic Arts have released Sims Bowling Party for the iPod. You will require a 5th generation iPod and iPod software version 1.2 or above to play the game.
Control the moves using your iPod click wheel add spin, aim, set the power and let it rip, the game springs to life with vibrant graphics and sounds. There are multiple game modes including a “pass-n-play” option allowing you to battle it out with a friend.
